Wiindows

So I got a Bluetooth dongle for my birthday, among other things. I was able to get my Wiimote working with Windows.

Even though I have no Wii, and so no sensor bar, I have no IR capabilities (ie no absolute positioning… more natural cursor movement) I still have the motion sensor stuff, which is how most of the first programs did it, although there’s some IR stuff now too.

So I used these recommended drivers called BlueSoleil. The trial version has restrictions but they haven’t impeded me any yet.

Although annoying (a service it installed crashes when I log on), it works with a little experimentation. It’s simple once you figure it out. In the main app, you double click on the sun in the middle to get it to search for devices, then put the Wiimote in sync mode (hold 1 and 2 or the sync button).

Once it’s found the “Nintendo RVL-CNT-01”, you double click on it in the window to search for services. Then click on the mouse icon on the top to connect the Human Interface Device service the Wiimote provides. The Wiimote icon should turn green indicating it’s all working.

Then you just need an app to actually make some use of the Wiimote. I tried WiinRemote and GlovePIE, and I highly recommend GlovePIE as it’s the better of the two. You can easily code your own scripts to map inputs, or get fancy and make the LEDs on the Wiimote blink, make it rumble… fun. 🙂

I experimented with a few scripts and uploaded a couple I cobbled together from existing scripts and my own work. The Goldeneye Source script is based on my own HL2 key settings… plus it sucks (never got jumping working, even though the script piece came out of a supposedly working script). It was fun though. 🙂

Look through them yourself, they’re not too difficult to understand. I’m still fooling around with GlovePIE, even without a Wiimote it’s a fun little app.

Goldeneye Source.PIE – In honor of the new beta. Get a patch out quick guys! 🙂 Explanation of controls since my own key mappings differ from the default:

  • D-pad moves and strafes
  • B is main fire, A is alt fire
  • The Mouse.MiddleButton is supposed to jump. I’m not sure it works though. 🙁
  • Home is use.
  • Minus is reload.
  • Plus is crouch.
  • One is next weapon (Fast Weapon Switch should be on, although it doesn’t work right with mines.)
  • Two is aim.

Wiimouse 2.PIE – My preferred mousing script I cobbled together. LEDs show battery level. 🙂

I believe you may need to edit that script to adjust it to your screen resolution. I’m actually working on my own Wiimote PC scripting tool that I’ll release soon, I ported my Wiimouse script and it works great! 🙂
